Miners Memorial Weekend/Ginger Goodwin Day will be taking place Friday June 14 to Sunday June 16 in Cumberland. This is an important labour event for Vancouver Island that provides a living link between past and present labour struggles. From company towns and disposable workers to the rampaging cost of living and precarity, the necessity of labour solidarity is more crucial than ever.
Workers from across the island will gather at the graveside of Ginger Goodwin and the countless other miners who perished unnecessarily. By reflecting on the past, our focus will be sharpened on the hard work that still needs to be done.
Miners Memoria Weend/Ginger Goodwin Day is an opportunity to build a community with other workers beyond geography, industry, and trade.
Transportation will be provided by the Community Action Bus departing Victoria Friday the 14th and back to Victoria Sunday the 16th. Please contact the Community Connections Committee for bus and carpooling details.
